Unfolded Protein Response (UPR)

Researching novel therapeutic strategies for modulating the UPR

upr-teamThe Unfolded Protein Response (UPR) is a part of the Proteostasis Network that is activated when cells experience stress due to the accumulation of unfolded proteins within the endoplasmatic reticulum (ER). UPR dysfunction is associated with many diseases, which are now recognized as protein conformational diseases, including: genetic, neuro- and retinal–degenerative disorders.

Modulation of the UPR is seen as a promising therapeutic approach to restore and improve the proper cellular stress response. UPR modulators therefore have high potential as novel therapies for multiple diseases classes with high unmet medical need.
